Summary: | This report describes a numerical study of free convection along a vertical cylinder. It aims to investigate the heat transfer problem regarding free convection along a heated vertical cylinder when the surface temperature is taken to be proportional to x^n. The governing equation is modelled and solved numerically using the mathematical software, “Matlab”. Extensive research on previous related work was done and analyzed. This report also features relevant topics in the literature review. A detailed analysis on the numerical solutions was constructed and presented in this report. It covers areas such as the relationship between parameters like, Prandtl number, Pr, curve parameter ξ and the constant n, when free convection takes place. Solutions to the problem were provided as well as the velocity and temperature profiles subjected to different varying parameters. In addition, solutions of the heat transfer rate and skin friction coefficient were displayed as well. Lastly, a conclusion was drawn proving that Prandtl number, Pr, curve parameter ξ and the constant n are vital parameters toward this problem and that the governing equations provided is showed applicable to use.
