The domestic printing market can be classified into large corporations, the medium-sized companies, and the small printers respectively. It is found that rivalry exists within each segmented group rather than among the three groups. Each group has its own market niche, and do not usually compete with one another directly. Printers within each group face intense competition from potential entrants, largely due to the low entry barriers to entry. There are few, if any, close substitutes to printing. It is also found that the most important forces affecting the industry are the bargaining power of labour force, and the bargaining power of large buyers. The rapidly growing wage rate and the insufficiency of skilled craftsman have resulted in the manpower problem. Furthermore, large buyers such as corporate buyers and the government have strongly influenced the industry in terms of price, quality and service. |
