description In this work, initially, the fundamental issues including mathematical representations of sculptured surfaces in computer and their classification according to its geometry shape are reviewed. Important issues on global accessibility and setup analyses are discussed with the aid of visibility theory. Then the local accessibility of smooth and non-smooth surface is also evaluated by using the Dupin indicatrices of the cutter-swept surface and the design surfaces. The highlights of this work present some studies and discussions addressing the current developments of 5-axis CNC machining technologies.
