The feet that there are relatively few studies of tourism inspired us to apply the Almost Ideal Demand System Model to the demand for ASEAN destinations by Japanese tourists. Because of the unique nature of tourism demand, modelling this dynamic industry is not a straightforward exercise. Our results indicate that the model is applicable. We categorised the destinations on the basis of their elasticities. We then used the model to forecast the market shares of the ASEAN destinations.
