The project is undertaken to identify the social and economic impact of foreign labour collectively. It also seeks to investigate Singaporeans' perception of the impact of foreign labour on Singapore. The perception of Singaporeans on various economic and social issues were surveyed through a questionnaire. Survey results show a lack of consensus among respondents on some issues. The reasons for this will be discussed and evaluated. The project will compare survey results with secondary information obtained. For issues where perception of respondents show a divergence from fact, an analysis is done. The project also presents a case study on the employees of the Port of Singapore Authority so as to gain an insight to the perception of Singaporeans working in an organisation that is heavily reliant on foreign workers. Besides looking at the impact of foreign labour as a whole, the expatriates, illegal workers and domestic maids are specifically discussed as each of these groups has unique implications on Singapore. The project, hence, allows readers to gain a greater understanding of the impact, perceived or real, of foreign labour on Singapore.
