Since the economic reform of 1978, Shandong has been one of the fastest growing regions in China. It has one of the highest provincial gross domestic products ( GDP ) in the country. Its GDP has been growing at 11 percent since 1987 and in 1993, the rate rose to 24 percent. In this paper, we build an econometric model of Shandong and use it to analyse certain special features of the economy in the areas of foreign investment and rural industry development.
