Based on the Geweke-Sims-Granger (GSG) integrated framework, there exists strong evidence of causation running from real earnings to unemployment in Taiwan. However, evidence of bi-directional causation between real earnings and manufacturing employment were also detected. Lucas - Rapping's inter-temporal substitution theory on unemployment is consistent with the Taiwan's time series facts since real interest rates unidirectionally Weiner-Granger caused unemployment. Unidirectional causation running from prices to manufacturing earnings and unidirectional causation running from money supply to prices imply that inflationary process in Taiwan could be a hybrid of demand-push and cost-push hypothesis.
