This project studies the effects of CPF and other determinants on the demand for life insurance in Singapore by quantifying their roles from 1981 to 1994. A regression model is applied by analyzing the relationship between new policies issued and its determinants including income factors, opportunity costs and social demographic factors. The regression model indicates that CPF withdrawal, investment alternatives and population are among the key factors affecting demand for life insurance in Singapore. An attempt is also made to infer the effects of these factors on future level of insurance demand. Inferences show that the level of life insurance demand would continue to expand. A further attempt is made to explore the microeconomic and macroeconomic implications of this model; specifically recommendations to the life insurance sector and the corresponding government authorities. Finally, this report concludes the proposed model with suggestions to improve the model further.
