description | In-Car communications are crucial for data exchange within the car. With the increase use of Electronic Control Units, demand for Inter-ECUs communication increases. As a result, domain specific automotive bus systems are introduced. During integration, communications between these buses are normally carried out through costly gateways or ECU sub-gateways.
Car manufacturers are looking into implementing Ethernet as a replacement to lower cost in cabling and to support communication to external networks. To ensure predictable behavior required in the In-Car network, time-triggered Ethernet should be implemented. Time synchronization allows all nodes to operate at a common notion of time, allowing implementation hard real-time system networks.
In this report, we will look into Time-triggered Ethernet as a physical interface using Precision Time Protocol (PTP) on a FPGA computation unit. |
