| description | In Indonesia, female youth’s education outcomes are compromised by poverty and the practice of early marriage. Although most girls enrol in school, drop-out rates are high among youths. This paper uses the Indonesian Social and Economic Survey (Susenas, 2009) to model education and school-work outcomes. Our estimation sample consists of 78,729 observations. The analysis uses a regression control approach and explores household, individual and labour market factors to model the association between school dropout and early marriage of female youths. Results show that girls who marry early are more likely to drop out of school. Also, early marriage is a primary factor that contributes to female youths dropping out of school among other factors. |
