description | This study seeks to examine the various factors which will affect the success of the regionalisation drive, which is now being actively promoted by the government. The analysis was done at two levels: we examined issues on a broader macro-economic perspective at the national level, and studied micro-economic issues at the firm level. We highlighted the various structural characteristics of the domestic economy and society which affects the regionalisation drive. These characteristics include push/pull factors for regional expansion, issues involved in financing of the regional venture, assistance from the various public and private sector bodies, and barriers to regional expansion arising from our social environment. We also studied the various problems which businesses can expect to encounter in three representative host countries (China, Vietnam and Myanmar). We concluded the report with some suggestions on how the problems pertaining to the regionalisation drive can be resolved and how success in the regional venture can be enhanced. |
