Summary:双喜translates to Double Happiness in Chinese. The meaning of喜 (Happiness) is joy while 囍 (double happiness), are twin Chinese characters of joy, a symbol of marriage. The Double Happiness motif often appears on items associated with weddings. These motifs are produced on paper cuts and as calligraphy then used as decorations. This practice can be traced back to the Song Dynasty (960-1279AD) and was associated with a gifted scholar by the name of Wang An Shi. (Refer to Appendix A for the Legend of Wang Shi An) 双喜 (Double Happiness) is an attempt to highlight the forgotten– through a dining-set redesigned for Chinese wedding banquets. It comes in 3 sets; each consisting of 5 dining wares and is inspired by the Chinese motif 双喜 and its romantic legend.
