Summary: | The Finite Element Method (FEM) is one of the more important techniques in the history of engineering. It is a method used to change complex systems into small finite elements for easier analysis. Professional software, such as ANSYS and Abaqus, are engineers’ tools for real life structural analyses. These software are powerful but are limited to desktop computers.
The rapid advancement in mobile technology has seen the rise of the mobile applications, in short, apps. Both Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS dominate the mobile operating systems market. As such, apps for both ecosystems are currently booming in numbers and popularity.
However, there is a limited amount of apps designed to perform FEM calculations or to aid in the learning of FEM. Therefore, the project’s aim is to create a user-friendly and interactive iOS app to perform simple FEM calculations and modeling. With the creation of the app, it is hoped that students will have a tool that aids them in the learning of the FEM. In the future, the app may be further developed for professional engineers as well.
