description The production and life cycles for new products are getting shorter. Suppliers, production centers, logistics networks and customer bases are becoming more global in nature. Hence good Supply Chain Management (SCM) practices become increasingly important for businesses. A business must be able to identify, track, and manage its SCM Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) so that it can provide timely and reliable delivery of its products. Having a set of SCM KPIS will also enable a business to perform benchmarking to improve practices and performance so that it’s SCM can be a competitive advantage. Generally, there are 2 types of benchmarking: 1. Results Benchmarking; a focus on quantitative performance measures 2. Best Practices Benchmarking; a focus on how well processes are executed This report will elaborate on the use of the software, Microsoft Access for computing and visualising the KPIs of a supply chain, for use by businesses and to facilitate results benchmarking. The intention is to leverage on this easily available desktop software to create a SCM dashboard for adaptation and use by SMEs which otherwise may not be able to afford more costly industry level IT packages.
