| Summary: | 1979年新加坡政府执行了众多对华人社会具有深远影响的政策和运动。其中一些重要的课题包括：“推广华语运动”、大学入学标准与教学媒介语的改革、特选中学计划和“新加坡文化”的讨论。经过这些事件，华社逐渐被塑造成一个认同于国家，愿意为国家建设做出贡献的国人。本论文将以1979年作为中心，并通过华文报章《南洋商报》了解华人社会的变迁，提出政府如何通过大众媒体、教育政策、文化政策重组华人社会，并且论证这一重组的目的是想把新加坡人民重新打造成符合国家利益的“理想国民”。In the year of 1979, Singapore government implemented numerous policies and movements which had a profound impact on the Chinese community. Some of the important topics include: “Promote the use of Mandarin” campaign, the changes in the university admission criteria and medium of instruction, the proposal of the Special Assistance Plan school project and the discussion on “Singapore culture”. As a result of these events, the Chinese community was gradually moulded into citizens who have a sense of national identity and the willingness to contribute to the nation building. This paper will focus on the year of 1979. It seeks to understand the changes in Chinese community via the Chinese newspaper Nanyang Siang Pau, and how the government restructured the Chinese community via mass media, education policies and cultural policies. It will then demonstrate that the purpose of the restructuring was to mould the Singapore citizens into “ideal citizens” that serve the nation interests.
