| Summary: | 1949-63 年是全球政治社会剧变的时代：冷战、去殖民地化浪潮、「民族国家」纷纷建立。笔者认为，复杂的政治局势使英殖民认识马来亚制片组 (MFU) 作为宣传机器的重要性，促进了MFU的发展。英殖民急需MFU来稳定自己的政权、同时通过制作扶植马来人主权的影片，培养国民和现代化意识，以围堵共产主义在马来亚的扩展。MFU成立于1946年，短短十多年间取得众多非凡的成就。不但影片在国际电影节频频获奖，影片和摄影技术的国外需求也让MFU经济上蓬勃发展起来。更重要的，它很顺利地完成反共政治宣传的目的。MFU的影片不但提升了人民心目中的白人形象，也减低了他们对马共份子的支持。英殖民成功镇压马共，MFU可谓功不可没。笔者认为它的成功经验很值得深入探讨分析，为后世提供借鉴。MFU的成功可从影片制作，经济和政治上的因素來看。通过分析MFU影片的拍摄手法，题材，同时结合当时的社会情况和《海峡时报》（1949-1963）有关MFU的报道，笔者整理出MFU成功的因素主要有：政治时局促使政府经济和人力上的强力支持、先进的设备、注重培养本地人才、选择符合本地的题材、恰当和灵活运用宣传手法笼络人心等等。1949-1963 is a tumultuous period for world politics. The prevalence of cold war, decolonization and establishments of nation-states affected lives of people around the world. To effectively tackle the complex political situation, the Malayan Film Unit (MFU) was brought in and it was hoped through political propaganda, its political aims can be achieved. The MFU enjoyed tremendous successes despite its relative youth. Besides consistently winning awards in various international film festivals, strong international demand for its films and services also allow it to flourish economically. More importantly, the MFU achieved its political aims. People of Malaya were mostly subjected to its film propaganda unknowingly, grew increasingly warm to the white rulers and distanced themselves from the communists who were portrayed as “bandits” that will harm the people. Therefore, MFU is considered to be a smashing success in the eyes of many. The successes of MFU is classified into three major sections, namely success in film productions, economical success and political success. The writer analyses MFU cinematography and the way the film was shot, as well as newspaper articles from The Straits Times to deduce the various reasons of its successes. They are mainly classified as followed: strong governmental financial and manpower support in view of the political climate, modern facilities, training of local staffs, usage of local film materials, effective and creative usage of political propaganda and so forth. The writer feels the success of MFU is worthy of more in-depth research and analysis to provide a valuable knowledge base for interested parties to reference and model after.
