description Societies all over the world are becoming more exposed to the idea of homosexuality and Singapore is no exception. There are more people ‘coming out’ than ever and creating alternative family forms despite restrictions put in place in state institutions to conserve the heteronormative ideal. This is a study of how homosexual women in Singapore are able to negotiate meaningful relationships in a heteronormative society with respect to the family unit. By using data from qualitative interviews with twelve self-proclaimed homosexual women, this research aims to investigate the experiences of these women as they embark on their journey to create a family they call their own.
