Summary:The rapid growth in demand of the web design and development services originated from the commercialization of the Internet. High business overhead costs and convenience of online search are factors for this phenomenon. High rental costs and competition affects the profit margins of brick and mortar businesses in Singapore. In response to these adverse circumstances, they can improve profit margin by selling their services and products online. Businesses that lack in web design capabilities create demand for web design services. The convenience of online search allows online purchasing. Businesses without a website may not be found by consumers on the Internet. This may lead to a loss in potential revenue and consumer confidence. These losses may motivate business owners to seek for web design services. The objectives of this Final Year Project (FYP) were the creation of a sound business plan for a web design company and the development of a multi-featured prototype that achieved the business objectives laid out in the business plan. The business plan served as a blueprint for the web design business and contained specific details such competitive research, marketing methods, financial figures, and etc. The prototype consisted of unique features that differentiated the author’s business from current market competition. The prototype was developed on WordPress, which is a popular content management system (CMS), and used the latest technology recommendations such as HTML5 and CSS3.
