Description
Summary:In this study, the influence of welding and post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) on high strength steel structures is investigated. The research target is a reheated, quenched and tempered high strength structural steel plate RQT-S690 manufactured to grade S690. The studied influence of welding on this material includes residual stress and the property alternation in the heat affected zone (HAZ) on the tensile performance of as-welded plate-to-plate (PtP) joints and fatigue performance of built-up box T-joints, and the investigated effects of PWHT include the effects on residual stress, general HAZ properties and the tensile performance of the PtP joints. The results show that residual stress has negligible influence on the performance of high strength steel structures under externally applied tensile stresses but HAZ greatly affects the post-yield behavior and failure modes of the studied PtP joints, and proper PWHT could be helpful to improve the performance of high strength steel structures.
