description | This report describes the design tool created for the calculation of effective section area for Class 4 Slender Steel Sections based on Microsoft Excel with Visual Basic for Applications. It is built upon a previous final year project based on the calculation of effective section area for Class 4 Closed Section (Rectangular Hollow Sections). ST-34AB is extended to the calculation of effective section area for two more section types, the Roman II Section and I-Section with Extra Plate, and they are based on the design guidelines in Eurocode 3 Part 1-1 and Part 1-5. The finalised design tool incorporated user-friendly features with the computations to bring about a program that is practical, efficient and accurate, while facilitating the understanding of significant engineering principles behind the effective area calculations. |
