description The Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) consortium came out with a new standard called the Digital Video Broadcasting-Terrestrial 2 (DVB-T2) to complement the service provided by the DVB-T. DVB-T is a digital terrestrial television system which provides services to thirty over countries universally through the air. However, with the growing demand for higher quality audios and videos, DVB-T2 is introduced to support higher capacity and spectral efficiency for High Definition Television (HDTV). Currently, Singapore is working towards a full switchover to a digital broadcasting in the near future. In this final year project, the physical layer for DVB-T2 is first studied followed by simulating the signal using Matlab and Common Simulation Platform (CSP) developed by the DVB consortium. This DVB-T2 signal will then be used for passive radar purpose to detect and track targeted object. DVB-T2 transmitters are very promising emitters for target illumination for passive radar applications as they provide coverage of a large area as well as higher bandwidth. Thus, these transmitters are able to produce fine range resolution. Besides the simulation, experiment was also conducted using various equipments and software to test and verify the simulated DVB-T2 signal.
