Description
Summary:Global Positioning Systems (GPS) are used as an essential mode in transportation, as they are used for tracking the locations of commuters, vehicles and places worldwide. With the determination of accurate locations via the GPS, it will lead to a growth in the efficiency of travelling and transport, hence leading to an increased productivity of the nation. In recent years, there has been a growing popularity in the use of the GPS navigation system in conjunction with increased modes of transport, as it is multifunctional to aid users in locating directions, landmarks and places. Apart from its complement with the transportation infrastructure to broadcast locations for users, this technology is evolving to reduce the frequency of vehicle collisions. In this project, the study and application of the GPS map interface will be integrated with the use of the MK4 Cohda Wireless module (MK4 module) to aid in the tracking of multiple vehicles within the driver’s vicinity. In addition, the display of warning messages to the driver will be used to counter any imminent collisions. This report will encompass the background of ideas, process and system design, and lastly the difficulties encountered throughout the phase of the project. This project consists of several phases. Firstly, the integration of the MK4 module and the GPS vehicle map is executed through JavaScript, HTML and Jade. Secondly, serial communication or the USB/Ethernet is used to transmit data between the MK4 module and the GPS vehicle map. Thirdly, an algorithm is determined, by considering several factors such as bearing, speed and direction to display the warning messages to the driver at the appropriate period. Lastly, results gathered are evaluated and concluded.
