Description
Summary:Diesel engines are commonly found in trucks, lorries and other heavy vehicles due to the diesel engines being fuel efficient and offer high torque. However, in recent years, the rise of gasoline cost in Singapore have led to the passenger vehicle population to consider diesel vehicles as a viable alternative despite it having a reputation of having poor exhaust and noise emissions. Exhaust emissions from engines have constituent chemicals that can harm both humans and the environment. High level of noise will lead to health problems and even deafness. As such, this experiment seeks to use synthetic engine oil, fuel additives and engine formulation chemicals to reduce the exhaust and noise emissions. Experiment showed that United Oil Gold and Mobil One provided the best reduction in exhaust emissions while Mobil One and Fuel additives added to baseline oil provided the largest reduction in noise emissions. On the other hand, Baseline oil with fuel additives and Baseline oil with engine oil additives performed the poorest exhaust emissions during high engine speeds. In all, this experiment has showed that consumers need to understand their driving environment and use the engine oil to suit the environment.
