description Underground excavation and tunnelling have been the major consideration of most engineers as a solution for sustainable urban development globally. The understanding of rock responses and analytical data are vital for engineers particularly in this land scarce Singapore. There are numbers of projects under research namely the Underground Science City and Jurong Rock cavern Phase 2 in Singapore and these shows the great importance of the analysis and researches on underground development in this island country. This project aims to carry out numerical analysis to analyse the stability of underground rock caverns under static loads. Comparison between displacement and the stress in cavern with rock bolting and without rock bolting is being explored. On top of that, the time of installation of rock bolt will also be taken into considerations and comparisons are to be made. Discontinuous deformation analysis (DDA) has been widely applied in simulations of system of discontinuous blocks, and is used in this project to produce accurate and reliable results. Rock cavern models with size of 20 meters by 20 meters will be set up and simulated in DDA. Installation of rock bolt in the model will be carried out in this report to examine the rock bolt effect on the rock caverns stability.
