description Marriage today in Singapore does not exist in solitude but is regarded as a dynamic process that is interfaced with many other aspects of the society including the government, state policies, political ideologies and mass communication. The prevailing Singapore marriage culture, which involves a set of typical process: “apply for housing, register for marriage legally so as to collect the keys to the new flat, hold a wedding ceremony/banquet, and then move into the new flat together”, has revealed the imperative association between housing and marriage. This research aims to assess the relationship between the provision of public housing and marriage in Singapore and explore how the provision of public housing in Singapore influences one’s marriage planning and decision-making. Through in-depth qualitative interviews, a set of public housing factors that affects the respondents’ decisions on whether to get married and when to do so were identified.
