| description | This research explores factors affecting demand for MPP services and port developments in Southeast Asian countries, such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Philippines, to forecast the outlook for the MPP landscape in the region for the next decade. In addition to using Multiple Linear Regression Models in projecting trade throughput of each country, findings from different publications are used to trade trends, global relations and partnerships to illustrate the need for MPPs in the region. On the other hand, the study also gathers information on issues and strategies of MPPs, investments on MPPs and their hinterland connectivity to represent prospective port developments. According to the findings, the general SEA MPPs landscape will likely be driven by the strong trade outlook in the next decade. However, politics and funds availability put uncertainties on plans for port and hinterland developments. In addition, parts of SEA also face challenges in port systems and infrastructure developments. Therefore, MPPs landscape in SEA for the next decade is expected to be driven by healthy trade growth, with some regions having restricted developments due to complex stumbling blocks. With the findings presented and outlook projected in this report, investors and MPPs in SEA can seek to exploit trends, grab opportunities and mitigate threats. Future research can also look to build on the research by expanding it according to new circumstances, scoping it to customize for smaller regions, and adding relative importance in studying the factors considered in this paper. |
