description The frequent haze in the south ASEAN region is a serious concern as it causes respiratory problems among vulnerable groups of people in society. Several haze control methods have been examined. The efficient use of pre-filters to improve the life of traditional filters is also studied and an acoustic method has been identified as a potential alternative. The effects of various agglomeration mechanisms used in the industries are also considered. In this study only monodispersed aerosols behaviour is being simulated by using Styrofoam balls. The ideal standing wave frequency is identified from a low range of frequencies from 100 to 550 Hz. The standing wave frequencies observed from the test rig are different from the calculated values. This might be due to a modified closed end air column design that does not allow for maximum air particle displacement at the acoustic input side. Further studies are required on high frequencies that are above audible range and poly-dispersed aerosols before the acoustic device can be made as a viable alternative to traditional pre-filters.
