Description
Summary:Underground has become one of the most important focuses in city development nowadays, especially in the land scarce Singapore. Sufficient research and analysis is necessary to be conducted for these promising projects, such as Jurong Rock Cavern, an integrated infrastructure developed by Jurong Town Corporation on Jurong Island. Discontinuous deformation analysis (DDA) is applied to perform the numerical analysis on the effects of static loads on an underground structure. The model is built on the material from Jurong Rock cavern, with size of 120 meters by 120 meters. After simulation, the DDA-2D program will generate the related results. The aim of this project is to analyze the effect of rock bolt installation and how the cavern stability will be affected under a three-stage sequential excavation. Comparison of stress and displacement at different stage of excavation will be carried out. In addition, the effect of rock bolt numbers will also be explored.
