Description
Summary:Toast and Kaya is an interactive website aimed to create empathy about poverty in Singapore, and build self-help knowledge among the needy. The name comes from the phrase "bread and butter", which refers to livelihood. It was inspired by SPENT, an interactive game about poverty in United States. The website includes a game where users make decisions to survive scenarios of poverty on dignity and health points, and a forum that gathers tips and tricks on saving money to live dignified and healthy. The society views poverty as being unable to meet basic needs for living. However, having food and shelter would not protect a person from being socially excluded. True survival is about living as a dignified and healthy person, not just to stay alive and breathing. The website has garnered interest and raised awareness of poverty in a light hearted tone.
