description | 500 people in the United States and many more around the world, die of unintentional carbon monoxide poisoning/domestic gas leak every year [1a]. This report suggests using the concept of the Internet of Things‘ to tackle such problems. Internet of things is the trending buzzword‘ of today‘s times. Internet of Things is the concept of Physical things talking‘. A smart home security system is essential and has been improving in terms of its technical standards throughout the world. For the market, it is essential that a low-cost, easy to use/ user friendly solution is developed for home security purposes. The main objective of this project is to develop a home security system, in this case, a Smart gas detector has been chosen under the wide scope of home security. The MQ-2 sensor has been chosen for this specific purpose. Once the sensor detects gas level more than a certain set threshold value, it alerts the users via email and app notifications. This project combines the concepts of physical electronics (Hardware) and Software (Programming). The Raspberry Pi has been used for this project as the main computer‘, so to speak. Raspberry pi is a credit card sized computer which has many applications and capabilities. The report highlights knowledge about the main concepts involved in this project as well as discusses the methodology, implementation and the testing of the developed system. Parse, a third party back-end service has been used for sending push notifications as part of the alert system. The report ends with conclusions and suggestions for future work. |
