Summary:The complexity of antenna structures may reach the limitation of traditional fabricating methods, and this problem can be solved by using 3D printing technology. The goal of this project is to verify the feasibility of printing antennas, through studying the process of antenna design of microstrip patch antennas. A microstrip patch antenna operating in 6GHz was designed in a software. The design was turned into physical units with 3D printing technology. Comparisons between theoretical electrical performance and simulation results, as well as tested results after fabrication, were conducted. With acceptable error tolerances, the practicability of printing antennas was preliminarily verified. Throughout the whole project, knowledge of antenna theorems, antenna design was studied. Practical skills of fabrication and software simulation were also gained.
