Description
Summary:The advent of localization technologies has resulted in the rise of many automated applications. The need to implement this technologies in order to track and manage business assets in real time is accelerating at a higher rate. With the advancement of these technologies the popularity of the indoor tracking technologies are gaining momentum, among which Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is mostly preferred. This dissertation explores the RFID system’s working and its components in detail. It also researches the requirement of a RFID system in a healthcare environment and the benefits it gives to the healthcare industry. A Windows based Graphical User Interface (GUI) is developed which incorporates the tracking facility of the RFID system. This application is created in .NET framework. The appearance and features of the interface is designed and programmed in Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF). The main purpose of the application is to retrieve real time location informations of objects from the database and display it to the users. The application contains a communication feature which uses a Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) service. All the technologies and tools used in this project are studied and discussed in this thesis. Apart from the tracking feature the WPF application also contains different functionalities related to the healthcare settings. These features are elaborately discussed in the thesis with the reason of their requirement. Lastly, the thesis recommends some future work for development of the system.
