Summary:As the port industry is increasingly subjected to scrutiny by the international regulatory bodies as well as the local port authority, the port operators are consistently looking at energy management to address the issues. The paper examines the feasibility of integrating renewable energy resources and energy consumption using an energy management system. Discrete event simulation is applied after the extensive literature review and interviews. This provides a qualitative and quantitative analysis to justify the feasibility of energy management system. Thereafter, energy management system in Port context and a framework under ISO 50001 is recommended. Conclusion drawn from this research indicates the effectiveness of reducing energy consumption and operational costs using the energy management system. Moving forward, the liberalization of electricity market will make energy management an even more important component in Port Operation.
