Findings have shown that the reasons for participation in underage clubbing include 1) enjoyment of the activity, 2) desire for respite, 3) desire to attain certain statuses and 4) experience of peer pressure. Underpinning participation in underage clubbing for the aforementioned reasons was the process of differential association, from which respondents acquired 1) favorable definitions 2) requisite techniques, 3) necessary support which rendered participation a viable or safe prospect as well as 4) direct opportunities for participation. Accordingly, it is argued that female participation in underage clubbing is largely a product of socialization. |
