Description
Summary:This project discusses the means by which negative refraction can be obtained through the implementation of three metamaterial architectures: NIMs, HMMs and High Dielectric Resonator Based Metamaterials. An initial literature review outlined the advantages associated with each metamaterial structure as well highlighting the industrial applications aforementioned phenomena. Upon the calculation of frequency range in MATLAB, subsequent CST MWS simulations confirmed that negative refraction could be realised in the GHz frequency range and THz frequency range respectively for the NIM and HMM structures. Project work concluded with the implementation of arrays of high dielectric resonator arrays. Whilst simulation results did not agree with theory in the experimental case, negative refraction behaviour was observed in the theoretical effective medium case in the THz frequency range: consequently, the project proposes a strategy which should be adopted in future work to ensure the experimental configurations fully agree with hypothesised results.
