description | Kite Might is a short animated film about a young girl’s desire to fly an extremely big kite. Featuring quirky character designs, the film seeks to convey a moral story, echoed by the Aesop Fable, the Tortoise and the Hare, where with great arrogance, comes a price and being persistent, grants a chance of success. Similarly, Daya’s persistent attitude enabled her to win the bet made, while Gus’s own insecurity resulted in his loss. In light of the film’s vision to be comedic, there was huge emphasis on the emotive nature of the characters, each having individual colour palettes to be recognisable while the colour script followed the story beats closely, with Daya’s rise and fall and rise once more. This report documents the process of making this final year project (FYP) thesis film from its early stages to the animation process, and the workflow problems made along the way. It introduces the challenges faced with hand drawn animation and the importance of communication. |
