Summary:Brain Computer Interface (BCI) based neurofeedback games have been utilized to improve cognitive skills in non-disabled individuals. Electroencephalogram(EEG), among other noninvasive BCIs, is popular due to its fine temporal resolution and ease of use property. In this report, an attention-based game using EEG is proposed, with players’ attention as BCI input to game. The game integrates gameplay elements from Role-Playing Games(RPGs), incorporating conflicts and level challenges, and Action Games, more specifically Platform Games as a subgenre. Real-time computation of attention scores involves ratio of theta to beta band power in EEG signals, and determines the velocity of the avatar. The experimental results show that the game can improve players’ attention skills in terms of raising attention level in a short period and sustain relatively high attention in a longer range.
