description | In recent years, several of experiments and researches were being carried out within the Maritime and Offshore engineering with the purpose of improving and discover new ways or design to further improve the field as a whole. Researches were conducted in several area within fluid mechanic field such as drag force, acoustic signal as well as clean and renewable energy such as waves and Wind. It is known that fluid mechanic is an area of study the motion of fluid body be it water or air and the effect to its surrounding environment, and since fluid were a major fraction of consideration within maritime and offshore engineering, thus field of fluid mechanic became a major importance to the maritime and Offshore Engineering sector.
In this project, several research topics within the maritime and offshore engineering relating to Fluid Mechanic were carefully read, analyse and reviewed in order to find an interest point that could be further studied and analyse. An interest point was pinpoint while reviewing researches related to offshore wind energy. It was noted that wind energy industry are going further toward the deeper part of the ocean as the wind velocity were much higher than onshore. But as in goes further, traditional way of positioning and securing the turbine were not be suitable. Thus floating platform were used. Since those platform floats on the ocean surface, it will be subjected to the random wave motions. This report review how the effect of wave motion affects the turbine in term of power generation output. |
