| Summary: | The gender stalled revolution (England 2010; Williams 2011; Coontz 2013) has been constantly accounted for from a top down approach. This study re-examines the phenomenon from a bottom up approach in the Singapore society, and attempts to provide a more well-rounded account by looking at the behaviours of couples in various realms. My findings explicate how traditional gender behaviour continues to prove hard to be eradicated by alluding to gender performance. Men and women are unable to behave according to their gender ideology in certain situations, and resort to placing explanations on their behaviours to negate the inequalities they face. Through this research, it further explains the deeply entwined nature of both structure and culture. |
