Summary: | This study examines how secular work and the workplace shape employees’ religious practices and participation at work. In particular, this study aims to uncover how bus captains negotiate between meeting the demands of secular work and expressing their religiosity at work. Employing qualitative methods, 20 Hindu and Taoist bus captains were interviewed. Findings have shown that in their attempt to express their religiosity at work while ensuring work duties are carried out well, respondents have modified their religious practices and participation. Work and the workplace thus shape the religious practices and participation of respondents at work. However, the reverse relationship is also observed in this study. |
