description As a city of frequent travellers, young Singaporean male adults is this city’s most frequent travellers. While gender relations have been most commonly understood to be intrinsically linked to an individual’s biological sex, and this paper aims to explore how gender is a cultural ideal and a social arrangement. Males do masculinity to show their belonging to the sex category, and hegemonic traits emphasize dominance and strength. However, understanding how Singaporean males conceptualize masculinity today, we see that a variety of masculinities have been accepted. When we study the process of masculinity in relation to touristic activities and social media, hegemonic forms of masculinity still remain. Hence this paper argues that a rigourous discussion is needed to bridge the gap between the ideals of multiplicities of masculinities and the reality of using hegemonic masculinity as a indicator of male-ness.
