description | Balance is a 2D animation short featuring a ten-year-old boy (Elijah) and a six-year-old girl (Zadie) paint from opposite sides of a wall. Each character has a distinct style. Zadie paints animals and nature motifs in a childlike manner while Elijah creates geometric abstractions. Limited by the two-dimensional constraints of the wall, the two characters eventually meet in the middle. And with no way of extending their own paintings, a feud ensues. The fight escalates to a point where the two characters brawl in fantastical ways, involving acrobatics flips and paint throwing. By projecting their hate and anger into their attacks, the two characters inadvertently creates a fearsome monster. While initially still at odds with each other they ultimately realise the need to work together to vanquish the beast. |
