Description
Summary:With the advent of modern day technology, electric mobility is becoming more and more relevant in our society. On top of that, in today’s society, there is a rapid rise in ageing population as well as the number of people with disabilities. As a result, there is an increase in demand for wheelchairs. Electric wheelchairs are preferred as they are automated devices that do not require much effort to operate in. However, in the current market, electric wheelchairs are very expensive and heavy. Hence, to counter the issues faced as mentioned, I have proposed to design a manual wheelchair that is powered by battery pack and operates like an electric wheelchair in this project. This includes the implementation of software control, the installation of 24 LED light as well as the integration of battery management system within the wheelchair. These features are proposed to improve the safety factor of operating the wheelchair. The wheelchair designed is around 40% cheaper and 50% lighter than those electric wheelchair sold commercially in the market. This newly-designed wheelchair provides a cheaper, more lightweight, more user-friendly, easy to transport around and efficient alternative for the user.
