Description
Summary:Solar energy has been a growing trend in generating electricity with the rapid depletion of natural resources and increase in human population and usage of technology. The use of CPV is acknowledged as one of the top choices for concentrator systems today due to its high efficiency of III–V multijunction cells. Within the scope of this paper, a comprehensive literature review on CPV system is proposed. The review presented a theoretical investigation on the performance of different design configurations of multijunction solar cells. This study introduces the concept of CPV in addition to reviewing the fundamentals and technical aspects of conventional PV cells. The study is split into two parts. The first part covers an overview of the conventional PV along with the generations of PV cells. It is followed by an in-depth study on CPV system covered in part two of this study. The applications, limitations, and the criteria required when assembling a CPV system are discussed in this study. To further develop a CPV, a few key factors should be focused upon in ongoing research. One of it is by increasing the concentration ratio because having a high concentration ratio will develop greater potential in improving efficiencies and reducing cost. In conclusion, CPV has the potential to outgrow conventional power generation systems in the near future.
