Description
Summary:This project involves design, fabrication and testing of a circularly polarized planar helix antenna. The antenna has an operating frequency of 20 GHz and it can be fabricated using printed circuit techniques. A planar helix model was designed using the idea of a helical antenna. The effect of various parameters such as dimension, substrate, pitch angle, etc impact on the radiation characteristic have been studied. The antenna S11, directivity, axial ratio, side lobe and efficiency were obtained from microwave CST studio. SMA connector was chosen to feed the antenna and Rogers RO4003C was chosen to be the dielectric substrate. The final design has an S11 of less than -10dB over the frequency range of 17 – 23 GHz, a directivity of 11.6dBi with side lobe at -18.7dB, axial radio of 0.76dB and total efficiency of 97.5%.
