description “Ageing Population” is a significant phenomenon happening in the 21st century on a global scale. Together with this, there is an increasing population of elderlies living alone or unsupervised at home. With such social isolation, there is a commonly neglected psychological issue facing these elderlies – undetected form of depression.This project delves deeper into understanding the social and related aforementioned psychological issues that come with it. Further understanding of the correlation between depression and sadness would also be explored. In this project, more attention would be given to the elderlies staying alone at home most of the time. The objective of this project is to develop a system that allows caregivers to detect and monitor the emotions of the elderlies they are taking care of, and thus, alert the caregivers of elderlies who are at risk of depression. This would then allow the caregivers of the elderlies to intervene and provide support in time. This system, therefore, serves the purpose of addressing and improving the psychological well-being of these elderlies. This project was shortlisted as one of the finalists in the Microsoft Imagine Cup Competition (Singapore) Finals 2018 and this project forms part of an integrated elderly care system consisting of 3 students.
