Description
Summary:In this report, the concept of adsorption desalination cum cooling, specifically desalination, were experimentally investigated using two adsorption beds containing silica gel, an evaporator and a condenser. The experimental testing captured under various operating conditions. Varying two key parameters, specifically the hot water inlet temperature and cycle time, the energetic performances were computed and evaluated in terms of, the Specific Daily Water Production, the Performance Ratio and the Overall Conversion Ratio. This report also provides some background information regarding the adsorption desalination as well as the literature review on recent research activities. The experimental setup including the equipment used and the experimental procedure were described in detail. The results on the experiment with various cycle times and hot water temperatures on the driving heat sources were graphically presented according to the energetic performances. Lastly, an investigation into probable reasons for the unexpected results and recommendations to rectify some issues faced.
