description As Louis Kahn once mentioned, “…we were born of light. The seasons are felt through light. We only know the world as it is evoked by light, and from this comes the thought that material is spent light. To me, natural light is the only light because it has mood. It provides a ground of common agreement for man, it puts us in touch with the eternal.” Impressed by the nature of daylight, My Daylight is a lighting project that explores the stimulating effects of daylight through the use of artificial lighting, and form and space of openings with interactivity to inject the product with life and personality and encourage a dialogue between the product and its user. Inspired by great works of architecture that focuses our attention on this natural phenomena through the interaction of light with material and space, design research on the experiential effects of light in architecture was done by reviewing works and its methodology by architects such as Le Corbusier, Steven Holl and Kengo Kuma. The project attempts to render the phenomenal qualities of the fusion of light, material and space into a table lamp that not only functions as a product but an encounter that enhances our sense and perception. The dissertation will therefore outline the processes from the start to the final outcome – a table lamp that translates the natural light phenomena into a sensible conceptual tangibility for the everyday, a greater appreciation of light and its phenomenal qualities, and also heighten our perception and our immediate relations with light itself.
