description | Soil surface undergoes repeated cycle of drying and wetting due to the tropical climate in Singapore. Soil exhibits different behaviour at different water contents. The soil-water characteristic curve, SWCC, shows the relationship between volumetric water content and matric suction. A large amount soil involved in engineering project are unsaturated. Understanding how soil properties affects the SWCC will help engineers in initial assessment of the soil behaviour. This research investigated the relationship between the soil properties and SWCC. Soil specimens were subjected to different matric suctions to mimic the natural drying process. Various property tests were conducted on the soil sample. Finding from these property tests will be used to explain the differences in SWCC. |
