The primary argument of this thesis is that Singaporean nationalism had been paradoxically conceived within Malayan nationalism. This dissertation also argues that Singapore unique geographical position puts it a dialectic position where it between a materialist-maritime oriented nationalism and an idealistic-hinterland oriented nationalism.
